Originally from Wales, UK, Emyr is a BC Registered Music Teacher, Author, Pianist and Electric Guitarist with over a decade of experience teaching Music in England and Western Canada. Emyr won a scholarship to study Music at the University of Wales, Cardiff in 2009, and went on to complete at Masters Degree in Music Performance at Oxford University in 2013. In addition to piano performance, Emyr also studied composition, musical analysis and ensemble conducting as part of his studies.

After graduating, Emyr taught Music in schools around Oxfordshire, whilst also serving as assistant conductor to the Pendyrus Male Voice Choir. Emyr moved to Vancouver in 2016, and initially taught at some of the city’s most prestigious music schools.

Emyr started Summit Music in 2019, with a vision to provide an excellent standard of in-home tuition, providing busy parents with a more convenient alternative to studio lessons. Our services have expanded across the Lower Mainland into Vancouver, North Shore and the Tri-Cities. In 2023, Emyr authored the Summit Music Piano Method for Young Beginners, which is based on the study of Eastern European Piano Pedagogy. Designed to help beginners progress quickly, students learn to develop a fluid technique, read music comfortably and create a beautiful sound at the piano. 

As a teacher, Emyr is familiar and experienced with both the RCM and ABRSM syllabi, having helped dozens of students complete their examinations to the highest standards. His students have won local and national competitions, including a 1st place award at the International Crescendo Competition at Carnegie Hall in 2023. Emyr is committed to bestowing students with the best possible habits, both in practice and technique, regardless of level or age. He strives to find the uniqueness in every student, helping them to discover the music that resonates with them.
